Thinking, Fast and Slow, by Daniel Kahneman
Overview: Our brains can be seen as being divided into System 1 and System 2. System 1 is fast, our first responses, gut instincts, and many heuristics (mental shortcuts) that can manifest as various biases. (For example, confirmation bias, anchoring bias, and primacy bias). System 2 is slower, more methodical and analytical, but is also lazy, so you have to consciously engage System 2 to challenge System 1.
Key Takeaway: Humans are not nearly as logical as we'd like to think. Being aware of the 175+ cognitive biases we are subject to can help you monitor when to fact check yourself.
Bonus Tip: For successful and enduring relationships, John Gottman's research determined a 5:1 ratio - for every one negative experience, aim to offset it with five positive ones. For leadership, this can look like giving positive feedback 5x as often as developmental.
